Always giving thanks for:
“Enter His gates with thanksgiving, And His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him; bless His name.”
Welcome to Thanksgiving Week! This is a time we all try to enjoy with family, enjoying a great meal together and thinking about all that we have to be thankful for. Our lesson this morning will deal with the concept of “Thankfulness” and our need to be thankful to Almighty God, not once a year, but every day of our lives.
Brethren, as you all know, we are going through some very difficult times in our country right now with all the violence that is taking place plus the terrorist threats that are surrounding us from every direction plus our country, itself, seeming to do everything it can to remove God from every aspect of our government and our lives. But, in spite of all this, we still have a lot to be thankful, to be grateful for. At least, for now, the church is still allowed to exist! We are still allowed to come together as often as we want to worship God and His Son. We are still allowed to work and worship as the church in public ways within our facilities and in other areas also. These are just a few of the things for which we need to be grateful to our God. But, as great as all these things are, they don’t begin to compare to the spiritual blessings our God has provided for us. What and how much has God provided for us spiritually? Paul tells us in Ephesians 1:3 where he says, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,” God has provided us with spiritual food, a spiritual family, a spiritual home, spiritual protection and a marvelous spiritual reward if we will serve Him faithfully. These are things that no one on the face of this earth can take from us. Not ISIS, not some government, not some hate group - no one can take these things from the faithful child of God. Is this not something to truly be thankful, grateful for? So, are you truly thankful for these things? Do you honestly, truly turn to and tell Almighty God how thankful you are, tell Him how much all these things truly mean to you? Does your family see (not hear) but truly SEE your gratitude in all you try to do for Our God and our Savior to demonstrate to them how much it all means to you? With all they have done for us, sacrificed for us, how much are you willing to sacrifice for them? How willing are you to sacrifice your time, your effort, your finances in return to them? Jesus gave up heaven, being equal with God (Phil. 2:6-8) to come here as one of us, how much are we willing to sacrifice of this world to go to heaven to be with them?
Brethren, as we enjoy this special holiday set aside by our nation, let us focus on all we truly have to be thankful for and celebrate it, not just once a year, but every day of our lives.
Until next week, I love you all,
